Monday, Monday
Daylight savings time has come and gone. The hours were set ahead and as a result, my sleeping pattern is thrown out of whack like always. I managed to wake up around 6 and watch a little tv and eat my breakfast, before having to take a shower and come to work.
There is no one in the parking. Why should there be, it's only 7:12 am?
By the time I get inside, I am already hot. This freaking building never gets it right. If it's cold outside, it's too hot. If it's hot outside, it's too cool or in some parts of the building, not at all. Part of the life of the call center, I guess.
I sit down at my desk, and proceed to drink my pepsi, and eat my apple pies. Then my cell phone rings. It's the theme song from Magnum P.I. It used to be a star trek ringtone but that got old. I answer the phone without even looking at who it is. "Leap sideways." I said.
"Can't you answer the phone like a normal human being?" Moxie replied.
"Where is the fun in that?" I retort.
"Jason, could you tell our supervisor I am not coming into work."
"I think you are supposed to call the hot line for that." I say, taking a sip of my Pepsi.
"I already did, moron. I just wanted to extend the curtisity to our boss. Besides, "sniff" It's really emotional for me right now."
"What's wrong, Moxie?" I say.
"Baby Athena died last night." she slowly wept.
"Baby Athena? Is that your dog?"
"YES, YOU SHIT! She's my dog. I have to make all the arrangments for her funeral."
I gently pierce the bridge of my nose. I feel bad for Moxie cause I know how close she was to that dog. But an actual funeral? It's difficult for me to comprehend. If Selena died, I would be sad but I would bury her in the backyard, not buy a casket for her. "Well, sorry to hear this happened, " is I can manage to say.
"The funeral will be tomorrow. And you and your psycho cat are not invited!" Moxie screamed.
"That's a shame. Selena finds there is an inherent honesty in funerals that weddings lack."
"I am warning you, Jason!"
"Can I send flowers or something?"
Moxie whimpered, "Yeah, that'd be nice."
"Okay. You take care. You know I am here for you if you need me through the greiving process.'
"Why do pets have to conk?" she cried.
"Unto every good pet, eventually they must conk. It is the way of things, Moxie. You'll understand this in due time."
"I guess," she blows her nose, "I need some coffee. I'll see you later."
"Laters." I tell her.
I sip on my pepsi, looking for a website that specializes in sending flowers to pets that have passed away.
