15th day of Peak Season
Is it over?
The bombs are coming less and less over the hours. It's all quiet on the Western Front Parking Lot.
I stroll in, massaging the wound on my neck. I look up to see SkullSmasher still ever vigilant. "Hey, SkullSmasher!" I call to him.
The giant mecha looks down at me. "Feeling better?" He asks.
"I am. Thanks for saving me and my friend."
"You are welcome. It was the logical thing to do."
"Why do you say that?" I ask.
"Your brother, The General, is a good friend of mine. If I didn't save you, I knew he'd kill me." the giant says with a slight bit of sarcasim.
"Right, " I smile, " I'll see you later."
"Later." he said, renewing his guard.
I walk into the building and find my fellow soldiers still resuming their posts. A few of them are now missing. It makes sense. As the war draws to a close, we don't need as many soldiers on the front. It's only right they go home to their familes and loved ones. They've fought long enough.
But for the rest of us? We'll stay to monitor this possible last day of Peak Season. It's what we were trained for.
Kane gives me a thumbs up, and Moxie drops off a cup of coffee for me. Space Rat salutes me as he resumes his perch. Iron Lung just smiles, massaging the wound on his arm.
I sit down at my desk and place my headset on, ready to tackle another day.
Let's see where we go from here.
